"In
a 1997 survey published by the Journal of the
American Geriatrics Society. 30% of those polled
said they would rather perish than live in a nursing
home."
"Nursing homes temporarily beef up staff
and often falsify records to fool inspectors,
and "can mask significant care problems from
the view of federal and state regulators."

One
of the most difficult times for any family is when they
must decide to place a loved one in a nursing home.
Most often, there is no other choice. We place our trust
in the nursing home for the care of our vulnerable loved
one when they can no longer care for themselves. Unfortunately,
that trust is broken for many people on a daily basis.
Nursing home abuse and neglect is an epidemic in America
today. Malnutrition, deydration, bedsores and even physical
abuse are realities for many seniors in nursing homes
every day. Nursing home owners are too often more interested
in profit than in the care their residents are receiving.
Nursing homes are often understaffed and are operation
in violation of Federal and State Regulations.
Enforcement of the laws takes a joint effort from the
resident, family and government. It takes the courage
of families who are experiencing nursing home abuse
or neglect to expose the abuse and protect the rights
of the elderly. Abuse of the elderly is criminal and
must be stopped. We expect the best care for our loved
ones and they deserve nothing less. |
