Background
and Education
Walt D. Roper was born in Fort Stewart, Georgia on October
7, 1967. He graduated from Baylor University in 1989 with
a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He attended the Tulane
University School of Law, from which he obtained his Juris
Doctor degree in 1992.
Bar Admissions
Mr. Roper is admitted to practice before the Texas Supreme
Court, and all state district and appellate courts. He is
also admitted to practice before the Louisiana Supreme Court,
and all state district and appellate courts. Mr. Roper has
also been admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts
for the Eastern, Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana,
Eastern District of Texas, as well as the U.S. District Court,
District of Arizona.
Areas of Practice
Mr. Roper has focused his practice in the area of serious
personal injury litigation and wrongful death cases, with
a heavy concentration in medical malpractice, nursing home,
and products liability litigation. Mr. Roper has also been
involved in numerous toxic tort and class action cases, and
presently represents plaintiffs in several insurance class
action lawsuits. His practice has covered a broad range of
issues involving science, the environment, and natural resources,
including risk assessment, groundwater contamination, lead
poisoning, and environmental aspects of international trade.
Organizations and Affiliations
Mr. Roper is former President of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association
Board of Advocates, and received an award from the Texas Trial
Lawyers Association for his efforts in fighting for victims’
rights in the 1997 Texas Legislative Session. In addition,
he presently serves on the Board of Directors of both the
Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the Dallas Trial Lawyers
Association. Mr. Roper is a member of the Louisiana State
Bar Association; the Texas Trial Lawyers Association; the
Association of Trial Lawyers of America; the Dallas Young
Lawyers Association; and the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association.
Presentations and Legal Articles
Mr. Roper accepted a request to be a lecturer on the topic
of Nursing Home Litigation at the Texas Trial Lawyers Association’s
"Staying in the Current" seminar, which was held
November 8-12, 2000. In addition, he spoke on "Forum
Non Conveniens for Toxic Tort Liability in Louisiana,"
at the Environmental 2000 Conference: Law, Science and the
Public Interest, at Tulane Law School, New Orleans, 2000.
He also spoke on the topic of "International Liability:
When Is It An Issue and How To Avoid It?" at the Fifth
Annual Conference, Texas-Mexico Bar Association, Mexico City,
October, 1998; and on “Preparing, Trying and Settling
Auto Collision Cases,” at the State Bar of Texas Advanced
Personal Injury Conference, Dallas, 1995. Mr. Roper was a
co-author of Managing Complex Litigation, 9th Annual Page
Keeton Products Liability and Personal Injury Law Conference,
Nov. 2, 1995.
